The Bike Fit Experience with Jake a qualified sports Physio specializing in bike fit is detailed below
One: Prior to your bike fit I will assess your strength, flexibility and posture with a detailed physiotherapy assessment. I will ask about the history of your symptoms and any injury and determine what the cause could be.
As part of the biomechanical assessment I will then assess for any leg length difference, muscle weakness/tightness, and asymmetry. This will then determine if a rehab programme is required.
Two: I will assess your movement and position on your bike using an indoor trainer. The emphasis being a visual assessment using my knowledge as physiotherapist and over 30 years experience of riding endurance events.
Three: I will look for any shoulder, spinal, pelvic, leg or foot asymmetry. This will determine if for example cleat shims are needed to reduce that asymmetry.
or is your knee and ankle working sequentially to maximise the amount of power in the down pedal stroke? Numerous other movements of your body will be analysed to determine what needs to be changed with your bike set up.
Four: Saddle Pressure Mapping will be offered to determine if the saddle position or type is right for you. Its also a good way of determining if there is any hidden pelvic asymmetry then might be cuasing saddle sores and or back pain.
Five: You will get 1 reduced rate follow up session if booked in 3 months of your initial bike fit. We can then see if the exercise programme or bike adaptations have improved your riding efficiency. Further exercises or bike adaptations can be offered to really fine tune improvements already made on the initial fit.
